Matters Arising
Chris showed the committee two new glass trophies that he had had commissioned for the Combined Compound Team winners of the five Counties competition.
The committee agreed that they looked excellent.
Chris said that he would be mounting them into a wooden plinth to finish them off.

Coaching Organiser Report
There is an invitation Junior Squad training day planned for September 29th that
will be held at Penrith starting at 10am. The parents of junior squad members present
who are willing will be shown the basics of equipment preparation and repairs required
to help keep their juniors gear up to scratch as and when it is needed, without having
the juniors relying on a coach all the time to fix or carry out any necessary repairs,

Tony Alston and I are planning to start a new Level 1 Course, details of which are still being agreed. A Level 2 Course as and when we can. There will also be a Level 2 conversion for some coaches.

Tournament Officer Report
There have been no competitions since our last meeting to report on.
We have been given Record Status for the following competitions,
The Indoor shoot at Shap, County open two day, Fita Head to Head in July, Chris said that we did not get the World Record Status this time round for the new Fita Head to Head Competition, the reason given was this was our first major event of this type and GNAS wanted to see how we handled it first time round.
Cumbria will have a very busy shoot calendar that it is putting next year; these are Feb 10th Indoor Portsmouth, Record Status, at Shap
March 2nd Frostbite, possibly held at Egremont
May 25-
June 15th Pentangle Inter-
July 19thth Record Status 70Mtr Head to Head Fita

In addition Eagle Bowmen will be holding a Clout Competition, where free camping is available.

Chris pointed out that at the Intercounty Clout competition last weekend Alan Beatty was 1st in Longbow and that he Chris had come third in the Recurve section.

Child protection Report
The updated CPO rules have still not been released.
There is a course in November and I strongly recommend that anyone who comes into contact with children through archery should do the course; this includes those who help at events such as Lowther’s ‘Have a go’ where there are many juniors who turn up to shoot.
These courses are important.
A yearly police check is coming soon on all those who are CRB checked, this should not be viewed as a threat, it
County Squad Report
At the moment I am putting together a list of archers for a team for the forthcoming Five Counties shoot at Newcastle, I have managed to recruit David Gregson, and I am awaiting a reply from Alan Wills to say if he will be available, I also have Rob Faulkner and Simon Degler in the frame for the recurve team, I am struggling in some other areas to fill places, and would welcome any assistance in selection in these areas.
Candidate names were put forward by members at the meeting for consideration.
Chris asked Geoff if Simon Turton could send him a copy of the results of last weekends Albion shoot at Kendal, and if Brian could send Chris and Sandra a copy of the entry form for the Five Counties shoot as soon as it arrived by email.

1. Sandra Lynch stated that that Cockermouth Archery club are holding an open Championship event on the 16th September which will be a St George/Albion/Windsor
2. Sandra also said that she had spoken to Alan Wills and he was willing to hold a training session for the county, the date to be decided. Brian asked if we could pin him down for a date in his calendar that would allow us time to organise and advertise the event well in advance of this date to attract as many as possible. Chris pointed out that the last time a GB archer was invited Richard Priestman to hold one of these sessions it filled the sports hall at Troutbeck Bridge, Ambleside.
3. Tim Swane stated that the next Sports Workshop that he was holding will be at Newton Rigg Penrith on Thursday 13th September, and those attending to bring writing paper and a pen although a booklet will be provided and Hamish was again to be tutor, the course this time would be archer specific.

County Coaching Organiser Report
I do apologise for not being with you, but I am away for four days and as luck would have it they start today!
There are actually a few things to mention and they are not in any particular order.
The L1 course training was completed in January and the candidates are now going through their assessments. Some will do this quite quickly and others will be less organised. It was a good course, but unfortunately only provides Cumbria with one new coach in County. All the others will be working out of County. With this in mind I thought it would be appropriate to bring to your attention the number of up to date renewed coaches that we have at present.Coach — 4 County — 2Several others are now well beyond a normal renewal date and although they could possibly be reinstated, this would require a more lengthy procedure and additional work, with no guarantee that it would be successful. I am therefore assuming and hoping that they are no longer actively coaching.This year Cumbria is hosting the first Coaching conference for NCAS and it is to take place in Kendal on the 10th. May. I hope to see a good turnout of all Cumbria coaches and any offers of help would be greatly appreciated.Tim Swane and I attended the 2008 Development Conference at Lilleshall last weekend and at some point in the future I will distribute relevant information that will help to keep you up to date.A useful coaching day was held at Cockermouth in January and enjoyed by everyone who participated. Why not consider running one in your club? We have the expertise and willingness to help within the County, so why not make use of it?Tim and I attended a L2 roll out day at Wetherby and are getting closer to being able to run a L2 course. This is something that would be good for Cumbria coaching and we do have L1 coaches who now have the experience to consider the upgrade. If they are interested we may well be able to recruit more people from other Counties to make up the numbers. The forthcoming update for Coaches to L2 will not be too onerous and I will present more details when the process is finalised.Over the last six months or so I have been in regular communication with the Cumbria Sport Partnership as the representative for the National Governing Body (NGB) of Archery (GNAS). The second meeting is due to be held in Kendal on Tue. 18th March and I cannot attend as I am away. There is the opportunity to put something about our sport on their website and when I have time I hope to do this.

In addition a few points to note from Tim, Tony & I attended a coach's conference at the weekend and found out that there was funding available from NWDA for coaching courses. There will be a level II course rolled out in October possibly held in Kendal, actual date to follow.
There is a lot going on in coaching nationally and in the county with many changes in the pipeline

Tournament Officer Report
Despite a poor forecast for the County Frostbite competitioncompetition at Egremont the weather turned out to be good with only a slight breeze the few that turned up had a good dayshooting. We managed a profit on the day of £61.
We also managed to produce a profit at Shap with 71 archers taking part, it would be nice to see more Cumbrian archers making the effort to take part and support the County.
I have been looking into an alternative venue to Shap Sports hall due to the fact that there has been no heating over the last few years and talking to others, it would appear that there is an effort to run down the hall so that it will eventually be sold for commercial reasons. I have had a look at Penrith sports hall that we could hire just 1/2 the hall for £180, or £340 for the full use from Sam to 5pm I believe that we need to move for the future of our shoots in the county because of this situation. It was discussed that we should try it for one year for the county comps to see how it works. One benefit is that it is still close to the motorway, and there are facilities to buy food and drink, everyone present agreed to give it a try.
I have started to get entries in for the Grand Northern and the Fita Head to Head and am trying to organise some catering for the events, archers are asking what is going to be available especially before the comps start.
Please note, The Five Counties Match will be held at Hunter Hall and not at French fields

Child Protection Officer Report
At the weekend I was away at a meeting on child protection and have to report that things do not look good at the moment, things are moving on. Insurance companies have put pressure on varies bodies including GNAS for changes to be introduced and implemented to their Children and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy. Because of this the `Children and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy `adopted by GNAS has been revamped and revised, and it is now mandatory that it is adopted into every club, minuted, and taken on, that can be termed as a `Serious Concerns Policy' and with a Child/Vulnerable/Adults officer appointed
Their insurance policy will no longer cover the club or persons who have any claim against them under the child and vulnerable persons act unless the above measures are adopted and are in place. This applies to all who are working, training, coaching or who are assisting in a helping only capacity, basically anyone who will be alone with children or v/adults at anytime. All these people must also be 'CB' checked, again for insurance purposes. This check according to Chris Battersby currently lasts for three years. The checks are free.
In addition each club must also have someone or a club officer who can act in the roll of first point of contact for any allegations made or implied by anyone, so that the situation can be monitored or looked into. Think of it as a type of `Whistlebiower Link' so that anyone, club member/parent/child/ public etc who has or may have any concerns or doubts or complaint can contact this person with anonymity and relate their views/concerns to that person/officer.

Geoff asked Chris if the year badges were due soon as they are overdue handing outChris replied that he expects the order to arrive soon.I have to report that I received a complaint from a junior compound archer on the lack of a trophy for his age group that he won at the recent Frostbite competition.

NCAS Representative Report
NCAS has introduced a new junior shoot that will be held at Wetherby which replaces
the previous shoot, which was normally held at Thirsk.
Also from the meeting we were reminded that clubs should send in their junior member's scores to Mr Peter Galbraith the NCAS Junior Organiser for consideration for selection to the regional squad for all future competitions by email; his details are posted on the NCAS web site.
One point to note from the NCAS meeting last Saturday at Wetherby was that the regions trophies are and will not insured due to the prohibitive cost of insuring them. This stems from a request from a winner who has two high priced trophies in her procession (values were obtained following a request to NCAS to have them valued) the value of these two trophies turned out to be in excess off £7500! Following a lengthy discussion on whether or not the region should be responsible for their insurance and all the other regional trophies that may be of value, it was agreed that the region NCAS would not insure them and that the trophy winners/holders should be made aware that they have some value and be asked to put them on their household insurance quoting the current values at the time when they are awarded to them. The committee felt that if the trophies were stolen or lost to the region, the region would not spend the full reimbursement amount on new trophies to a similar value and therefore the cost of insurance did not warrant the outlay that would be required
